In my recent trip in Chicago, I experienced yet another delay in my flight returning to LaGuardia Airport (NYC). It’s always disappointing to find your flight is delayed when you rush to come to the airport and go through the security at the gate.

This was one of these moments that I was frustrated walking down the terminal 1 of O’Hare Airport and wondering how long I have to wait for my flight. Then, I found this small oasis located Concourse C near Gate 17.

Beaudevin is a wine bar and the new addition to O’Hare Airport just opened this February. It loosely translates into “the beauty of wine.” For travelers who are tired of pizza and beer at the O’Hare, this is great news. Beaudevin offers travelers a chance to relax and enjoy good selection of wine in a casual but sophisticated atmosphere, combining traditional design materials with contemporary elements.

California Cabernet Sauvignon Flight

I was especially pleased by their offering of a choice of more than 20 red. I tried 3 different kinds of California’s Cabernet Sauvignon by the flight. In support of O’Hare’s ongoing commitment to sustainable best practices, Beaudevin offers several wines made with organically grown grapes. Parducci is one of them and I found Parducci Cabernet Sauvignon (a center glass in the picture) surprisingly a well-balanced and nice wine.

Parducci Winery was established in 1932 by the Parducci family. The Paraducci family moved from Tuscany, Italy to Mendocino County, California. Ever since, the Paraducci committed to sustainable farming. For instance, they keep the domestic animals, along with leftover grape skins, seeds and stems from the wine-making process. All these contribute to their extensive compost operation and this compost will naturally feed the vines.

“Under the leadership of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) continues to fully embrace sustainability with a strong commitment to incorporating the best environmental, social and economic practices at Chicago’s airports,” said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “2012 marked a year of great progress for the CDA and the beginning of 2013 sets the stage for a new year of even higher expectations and challenges as we continue to showcase our leadership to be a leadership in airport sustainability.” — from CDA Home Page

Next time you are at O’Hare and your flight is delayed, don’t get upset. There is always Beaudevin. Just relax and enjoy a glass of the sustainable wine!
