Happy Earth Day, everyone!  Ampleen is celebrating Earth Day Week in a big way in NYC and Washington D.C.!  We had the fortune to attend several sustainability related events last week.

Here are some highlights and pictures:

1) Good Jobs Green Jobs National Conference in Washington D.C. (April 16-18)

Green Jobs National Conference brought labor union members, environmentalists, business owners, community leaders and elected officials from across the country together in one place for one of the country’s largest discussions on how to build a cleaner, more efficient American economy.

My biggest take away from this conference was to learn just how dynamic our discussions around “Green Jobs” are.   I kept hearing the same question from the speakers and audience “what exactly green jobs mean in our time?”  One participant shared the story about his son’s recent experience.  This son took personal computers recycle job, but quickly realized the health risk by high exposure to mercury and other hazardous waste.  The story really made me think about the complexity of green jobs and sustainability issues.

Another take away was a workshop “The Role of Philanthropy in Green Jobs: Rockefeller Foundation’s SEGUE Initiative”.  The room was packed with people who are interested in the subject and we had great panels from Derek Smith, CEO of Clean Energy Works Oregon to Anthony Ng, Green Equitable Economies Strategies of Center for Working Families (NY).  We learned the latest and greatest in social entrepreneur arena in the various areas of the country.

2) Eco Chick Sustainability Fashion Event in NYC (April 18)

While Good Jobs Green Jobs conference was in the serious side of last week’s events, this Sustainability Fashion Event organized by Eco Chick was totally light and fun!  We learned the newest green products in the market place from the display at the event.

3) Green Festival NYC (April 20-21)

Ampleen played a key role in developing programs, selecting panels and speakers, and marketing the event.  Many thanks to our friends and supporters, Green Festival NYC completed with a great success over last weekend.   We created programs truly reflect diverse voices in the sustainability space in NYC.   Along with hundreds of booth introducing the new energy technology to kale snack, we had offered numerous panels and workshops during the festival.

My highlight was Peter Strugtz’s workshop about Social Entrepreneurship.  He advises social entrepreneurs in the different stages.  During his workshop, he gave helpful tips such as building trust and relationship with Venture Capitalists is one of the most important and shortest way to raise capital for your start-up.

Please let us know if you have any questions on these events!   Hope you will enjoy the nature in some ways today!
